Year-Round Equine Classes
Our Equestrian program provides youth ages 8-18 the opportunity to learn horsemanship and riding skills without the expense of leasing or owning a horse.
TUF is a foundational barn, meaning that our program is focused on teaching the fundamental skills of horsemanship and horseback riding. If your child is a more advanced rider (for example: the ability to canter on the correct lead or other advanced skills) they might be better suited for a more advanced riding school/program. Email Kate Barber at kbarber@theurbanfarm.org if you have any questions or need advanced riding school suggestions.
NEW CLASS OFFERING!
Equine Crash Courses are going to be offered 4 times a year. These month-long classes are intended as a prerequisite to joining our Equine Program.
The classes will be offered on Sundays from 1:30PM-3:30PM in February, May, August and November. We strongly encourage new riders at TUF to join one of the Equine Crash Course Sessions prior to enrolling in our other Equine Classes. The cost of this course is $500. Registration for Equine Crash Courses will open on January 9th, 2026.
Please note that participants will not be on horseback at all during this course. This is a foundational course meant to set youth up for success at the beginning of any riding program.
Learning Objectives:
Halter and lead horses
Grooming
Tack & untack (English and Western)
Equine behavior & groundwork/stretching

New riders to TUF & waitlist applicants will be invited to join TUF’s riding program on a first come, first serve basis as space becomes available in a level that is a safe and appropriate fit for them. TUF’s current riders have first right or refusal at the beginning of each session before we open spots to the waitlist.
