Learn more about TUF’s Poultry

More About Large (Standard) Fowl: As many of have heard by now, chickens are related to dinosaurs, but to be more specific, Tyrannosaurus Rex's are the most closely related. While chickens are NOT reptiles, the DNA samples taken from a 68 million year old T-Rex matched the most closely with the chickens we know and love today. Chickens prefer to bathe in dust rather than water due to its ability to control external parasites and condition their feathers. Often you'll see our ladies laying in the dirt with their wings or legs stretched out sunbathing on nice days.

More About Batam Fowl: What make these chickens different is their miniature size, black skin, turquoise ear lobes and 5 toes. Silkies are called "silky" because of their soft, fur-like feathers that are much less coarse than their larger cousins. These little ones are also known to make great moms.

More About Ducks: Ducks can be quite silly, no matter what temperature it is out here in Colorado, -5 or 90 degrees farenheit, they will swim in their pools no matter what! However, ducks' eyes are perhaps one of the most impressive things about them, while they are able to see colors more vividly than humans they can also see ultraviolet raditation thanks to an extra set of cones. Also, unlike chickens, ducks are better at laying eggs year-round since they do not need the extra light. Ducks also imprint on the first thing they see and follow it everywhere, continuing that routine when grown and follow each other around, always traveling in groups.
